Reflection on Marathons

SO I realize it is 4:45 in the morning and I have been up all night working so my brain is in fact only half working. But I have finished my journal and have been reflecting back. I started it the day I took my endowments out and it covers everything from my wedding tell now... I just read the part about finishing the top of Utah marathon and I wanted to post what I wrote- I am really struggling actually running right now- my excuses seems so good to myself when no one is there to push me so hopefully this will help.

Here is what I wrote....
I am a marathon runner! You heard me I am a marathon runner! All the training has been put into action- Surprisingly it all went very well. Here is what I learned from it. YOU TRAIN TO BE WHAT YOU ARE. While I was training I was OK with 5 miles instead of 7 or to run 14 and walking two for a "cool down" and so thats how I ran my marathon. However I wouldn't trade the experience for the world I am so grateful for a healthy body- which I have come to love as it is and I want to take care of it.
For my next marathon I want to set the goal not to walk a single step in the actually marathon and training... this means I will need to complete the trainings as well and push myself pass that wall- In fact for this next marathon I am not even going to refer to it as a wall.. but a gate! A gate that opens for me to finish the way I want to! Since I have started running with Lori and Amanda I know I will be able to do it- they are great runners I am lucky they let me run with them.
At the very end of the marathon there was a man yelling, "You have put your bodies through lots of suffering- don't stop now! Finish Strong!I will train strong so I can finish strong this next time! Life couldn't be better

What a slap in the face I have totally been a slacker but that changes tomorrow (today)! What were your guys feelings after the Ogden Marathon in 05? What are your goals for this race?

After the marathon I was just exstatic to have finished. Although I was really wanting to finish it under 4:30. That's pretty much why I think I decided to run another one. I want to for sure finish in under 4:30 this time. I totally agree that the way you train is the way you run. That's why I'm grateful that we have more knowledge now and are training better this time. Lori and I are seriously considering a method for the marathon where you push for a mile and then walk for 60 seconds, push for a mile, walk, etc. The theory is that you rejuvinate faster, are able to finish faster because you're pushing for a mile, and that you don't end up as sore because you don't stay above the lactic thresh hold for as long. That's how we're trying to train right now. We're not quite up to an entire mile, but so far on our long runs it seems to be working. We'll try it on Sat. and see how you like it!

Yaaah.... last time when we ran I lost it about, what 21 miles, Manda? We ran for most of those first 21 miles, I think to that point we'd only taken maybe a total of 5-6 minutes of a walk break. But, once we hit the parkway my legs just couldn't push it anymore. It was run for a minute, walk for 4. I definitely don't want to do that again. I'd really like it if we could do it in 4:15, but I think a realistic goal is 4:30. So far the run/walk has been working out great for us. Psychologically, for me, it's been good because then I know "okay in 4 minutes I can stop for just a second" so it gives me the ability to push as hard as I can (within reason) and our times have been relatively consistent. 9-10 min/miles. And running with the ipods has been AWESOME. Because when we actually push it we really can't chat... so we chat for minute spits ... it's quite funny actually. We have to sit for a half hour after the run to chat. Tee hee.

I've always wanted to be a "marathoner" so my goal is to run the Ogden Marathon and then run half's all summer and finish out with the TOU Marathon. I haven't convinced Amanda yet... but I can start working on you.... ;)

Oh no the TOU! my weakness I loved it and would totally commit to doing it again... why Lori Why do you dangle such things in front of me- the only reason I wouldn't is Ty and I will seriously be trying to get "Knocked Up" and if I did I am not sure a marathon would be good :( so let me think a minute....

that's right, I forgot you were planning on having lots of sex in august....hmmmm.... if you were already training and under 8 weeks preggo i'd say it'd be okay. after that, not so sure.

manda and i were chatting today about coming down and doing the 20 miler at your place. what do you think about that?
